Hartnell Taylor Cook’s own ‘Maverick’ and ‘Goose’ introduce drone fleet to bolster building surveying capabilities

Recognising gaps for innovation has always been at the heart of our practice at Hartnell Taylor Cook, and as part of this and our commitment to delivering top-quality results we are pleased to unveil that drone capabilities are now part of the services we provide.

Hartnell Taylor Cook introduce drone fleet to building surveying

Led by Richard Peszynski, Director of Projects and Building Consultancy, and Jack Bonnick, Senior Associate Director, the building consultancy team at Hartnell Taylor Cook has engaged with using drone technology as a tool in property surveying over the past six months.

The implementation of drone technology not only acts as an innovative tool benefitting the practice, but can also improve efficiency, safety and productivity.

Both Richard and Jack have qualified for a General Visual Line of Sight (GVC) certificate, which required a theory test and practical flight assessment to be undertaken, as well as the completion of an Operation Manual to ensure drone operations are conducted safely and legally. More widely, pilots must also abide by a myriad of London-specific regulations when operating in the city, as well as navigating flight permits and instructions from the Civil Aviation Authority.

Following its successful implementation, plans to expand training across the Building Consultancy team are already underway, and we have invested in a selection of drones to be used as part of day-to-day surveying. These skills have recently been put into practice, with work undertaken in locations such as offices in central London as well as on a number of projects so far, including completing high-level inspections as part of defect investigations for condition and pre-acquisition surveys of churches in Dorset; for a range of properties on Weymouth’s Esplanade; and on various industrial buildings and schools across the UK.

The adoption of drones into the building surveying process is one of many steps we are taking to enhance our service offering, ensuring that work is done as effectively and efficiently as possible, while also a cost-saving exercise for clients by avoiding outsourcing to third parties.

Richard Peszynski, Director of Projects and Building Consultancy at Hartnell Taylor Cook, commented:

“We are looking forward to the drones becoming a wider part of day-to-day activity as more members of the team receive their GVC certificates, and are excited to see what opportunities and benefits this will bring for both clients and ourselves – furthering Hartnell Taylor Cook’s commitment to delivering excellence.”
