Having been a part of our Bristol team for five months, Rachael Stone, Graduate Property Management Surveyor, is the third graduate we chat to in our ongoing series of interviews. Keep reading to get a good glimpse of what Rachael’s pursuit of property and first few months here at Hartnell Taylor Cook has looked like…
Property has always been on the cards for Rachael: she had taken part in work experience and placements in various fields across the industry since her school years, and continued to pursue it after university.
“Property stood out to me as a chance to play a part in the bigger picture, going behind the scenes to work on buildings which are the foundations of the community at large. It’s very satisfying to know how things have come together – I feel like a valuable piece in a puzzle.”
“I love being able to point out the projects I’ve worked on when I’m out with friends. I really do feel a sense of pride in seeing the physical manifestations of the work I’m doing!”
Learning on the job
Rachael shares she’s had to take on plenty of new information and skills in her role – and while daunting at first, it’s been made both easier and more enjoyable by the company structure.
“Working at companies where I was the only one manning an account, I felt I had nowhere to look to find inspiration for improvement. Here, I am part of a tight-knit team where it’s a natural process of leaning on and learning from one another.”
Rachael adds that having day-to-day exposure to Partners in the office has helped boost her confidence, too.
“I’m able to take my time approaching tasks and pay attention to all the details of a project thanks to the support of my team. This is absolutely essential to my job, and also to my well-being and progress.”
Life at Hartnell Taylor Cook
Rachael grew up in Bristol, so knows the city well. She speaks of how the city and Hartnell Taylor Cook mirror each other.
“Bristol is so friendly and open while also giving you a big-city feel. At work, my colleagues are the same, and there’s the perfect number of people for me to feel my independence but also feel known.”
The green space on the Bristol office’s doorstep is another plus, she adds.
“I’m quite outdoorsy so it’s perfect for me!”
