Amid a backdrop of increasing consumer confidence, the outlook for retailers is looking hopeful – particularly with reports revealing that consumer optimism is at its highest point in two years. It seems an opportune moment then, for our longstanding clients Finisterre to expand their offering in London and open a new flagship store in Covent Garden.
Richard Saunders, our Retail & Leisure Agency Partner, acted on behalf of the Cornish outdoor clothing brand to secure the location, which is now the largest of the retailer’s 11 retail spaces across the UK. The 2,702 sq. ft. flagship store is located in the heart of London’s bustling Covent Garden shopping district at 47 – 49 Neal Street and is almost double the size of the retailer’s previous flagship store.
Having worked with the brand over the last nine years, Richard has advised on the entire store portfolio across the UK; from Edinburgh to Brighton and beyond. Finisterre plans to double its estate over the next two to three years, with Hartnell Taylor Cook retained to acquire these new locations in vibrant retail areas across the country.
The store marks a move away from its previous Covent Garden store at 7 Earlham Street in Seven Dials and represents an 80% increase in size, allowing Finisterre to offer a larger selection of its sustainably made garments and accessories. The significant upscale will also allow the brand to run bigger events at the store, including film screenings, talk nights, and live music.
Finisterre achieved B-Corp status in 2018, being the first outdoor brand in the EU to do so – and this is reflected in the heart of everything it does, with the new store providing its Lived and Loved service, which offers free in-store repairs for any products purchased. This embodies how a store can practically demonstrate its ESG commitments and aligns closely with our own values of prioritising sustainability in all our practices.
Richard Saunders, Retail & Leisure Agency Partner at Hartnell Taylor Cook, commented:
“Having worked with Finisterre for almost a decade, I am very happy to have acquired 47 – 49 Neal Street on its behalf. It’s a brand that I strongly believe in and it’s incredibly fulfilling to see them go from strength to strength. The opening of this new store will be a key milestone for the brand, providing them with a bigger space in the heart of London that allows them to reach a key demographic as well as use the space more liberally. I’m excited to continuing this enduring relationship and seeing where Finisterre goes next.”
