Friday 10th October is World Homeless Day. As St Mungo’s is our chosen charity this year, it gave us great pleasure to join them that day at Victoria Railway station to raise awareness and vital funds for the charity’s work.
Henry Bruford took advantage of our volunteering policy, joining a group of other enthusiastic volunteers, staff and supporters helping collect donations. After something of a slow start, he’s delighted to share that he successfully collected around £50 over two hours.
“I was delighted to try and help St Mungo’s in some very small way. Every morning on my walk up to work I see the homeless lining the station and Victoria Street. It is becoming a serious problem and St Mungo’s are doing great work. Being a daily commuter it is easy to be too busy to ignore charitable work and I now have an understanding of how hard it is! Onwards St Mungo’s.”
Henry’s day was just one of several volunteering activities that our people have undertaken recently, including a beach clean up with Surfers Against Sewage, and building a sensory woodland park at Avon Riding for the Disabled.
Through our volunteering programme, each member of our team is encouraged to take one paid day a year to volunteer for a cause close to their heart, with many taking full advantage of the opportunity. We actively encourage our employees to develop and harness their skills to add value to the many voluntary and community organisations who rely on volunteers to achieve their objectives. More information about our commitments can be found HERE.
It was a busy day at Victoria, and there is more information more about the day’s activities on St Mungo’s website HERE.
