Writing in Talking Retail magazine this week, Chris Grose, rating director, said: “Calls to align April’s UBR (Uniform Business Rates) uplift with April’s rate of inflation rather than September’s have certainly not been unfounded, however they seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
“In fact, it’s disappointing to see that the Chancellor hardly addressed the issue in this Spring Budget. Businesses, especially SMEs and retailers are being crippled by a UBR that has done nothing but rise over the last decade”.
