Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

Dan Wear, apprentice at Hartnell Taylor Cook

5th – 11th February marks national apprentice week in the UK and this year we have a good reason to mark it because we have taken on our first-ever apprentice in our 102-year history.

Meet Dan Wear, 19, our apprentice Finance Assistant.  Dan, who joined the client accounting team in January, will be working with us for four days a week for the entire year, while the fifth day is spent at City of Bristol College where he’s studying Level 2 of AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians), a foundation course in accounting.

Settling into the team extremely quickly, Dan has begun his apprenticeship in the purchase ledger department, where he’s learning the coding and logging system for invoices and why this is a fundamental element of the process. Over the next twelve months, he will be introduced to the many different aspects of accountancy, moving around the team and taking on various roles and learning from and assisting our account team.

Leanne Jonas, Head of People said: “It gives us a great pleasure to be celebrating national Apprenticeship Week this year; it’s a fantastic way of developing people at the very beginning of their career.  We look forward to seeing Dan grow into the role, gaining skills and confidence over the coming year.  The apprenticeship scheme is a valuable building block in creating new career pathways in the industry and one we fully support”.
